One highway patrol trooper says it's the most devastating accident he's ever seen, a mangled mess of cars and trucks with five people dead.
It happened Tuesday night on a stretch of Highway 50 in Marion County where motorists are required to wait. The highway patrol says a semi didn't stop and slammed into three cars and two other semi trucks that were stopped in line. The chain reaction wreck killed five people. One wasn't found until early this morning in the wreckage.
The five victims are identified as three members of a Wright, Kansas family: 43 year old Victoria Bogner, her son 21 year old Chris Bogner and his wife 17 year old Michelle Bogner. They were in a mini van traveling back to Wright from Emporia.
A Wichita couple, 56 year old John Cafferty and 51 year old Shirley Cafferty died in their car.
Three people were also hurt in the crash near Peabody. One was treated and released and two were still in the hospital late Wednesday.
This is the third fatal accident along this stretch of Highway 50 in six weeks. Two men died in a similar wreck Monday night. Two women were killed in an accident May 10th.
Is it too much to ask to slow down in construction zones and pay attention??
