What's an 8LL spd transmission??????I've been looking for a dump truck lateley and I keep coming across this "8LL spd" transmission callout on the truck. I have no idea what that means. Any help?????????
A 8LL transmission is a "deep reduction" transmission usually found in Dump trucks and Cement trucks.

The 8LLIs classed as 10 spd but is really a 8SPD W/ A low hole gear & deep reduction (they count those 2 extra gears as 10 & as ya could see fer yourself w/ link Hoss gave )
But the 8LL IS A awsome tranny in a dumpbucket redimix trucks & dumpwagons & log wagons & lowboys . & is 1 of the easiest tranny to drive imop they are also hard to beat in the filed & those 8LL's will put thier guts out Just my 2 cents & yall have a goodone Bulldog Macks are like wine they only get better w/ age. The 8LL is a vocational truck tranmsission its pretty good the gear steps are pretty wide so trying to progressive shift it is tough. I think I would rather have a 13spd for more road speed the low hole gear in the 8LL doesn't get used that much. You find the 8LL is behind smaller displacement engines like the 3306 Cat or the L-10 Cummins.
A 18spd is about the best but you won't find one in a older truck so you go with a 13spd. GL
Thanks guys. Looking at that link to RoadRanger, I think a 15 spd would be a great all around tranny for dump operations but most of the trucks I've seen are 9 or 10 spd. Drove a 9 spd and it's low gear is pretty low and since so many of these type trucks have a 9 or 10, it's pretty hard to argue with success.
