Never Before Seen! NEW IHC Lone Star!

Postby GIDDY_UP_GO on January 9th, 2008

My cornbinder was recently in the shop at the Navistar dealer in Ft. Wayne, In. While I was there, I had the opportunity to see the new "Lone Star" which will make it's debut at the 2008 Mid-America Truck Show in Louisville, Ky.

They probably didn't want me snapping photos of these trucks, but with todays new cell phones it is fairly easy to get away with some sneaky pics.

Anyway, Ft.Wayne is headquarters to International Truck Corporations research and design team, they have had these trucks under wraps like they do the new prototype cars you see in car and driver with the black covers over them. I happened to be in the right place at the right time.

This truck will be available in 2009 and will replace the 9900 and 9900 IX series.

Aahh! C'mon! You think it looks ugly?

Man, I think it's the neatest looking truck I have ever seen! Kinda reminds me of the old Packards from the 30's. Or something outta the 30's. I can't remember exactly what car, but it looks like something from the past meets the future.

Actually probably a lousy snow plow. Too much plastic and flimsy metal.
Things so ugly it's almost cute.

I was part of a focus group that International sponsored to get opinions on that thing earlier this year. They gave us a bunch of pictures of unbadged trucks, and asked us to tell them the first thing that came to mind when we saw them. When we got to the picture of this monstrosity, everyone said in unison:

I like it. It has a snowplow front to it and will split a Moose in half without to much damage. That's what you need up here. :D

Big Top Secret? Hid it right out in the open. Must not be too secret! Could be they have got the same reaction from many others.

I like the flat hood though. More like the Freightliner Classic that I loved so much.

I still don't like the sloped hood on the new ones even though they are supposed to be more aerodynamically efficent. Supposedly you get a 1% boost in fuel milage. Big Whoopee!
